I was with a group of people recently, and the chat went towards having to set boundaries.
As we bantered back and forth, one of the ladies said she had a problem…and that was that she has found out that she allows herself to be influenced by the comments of people whenever she shared a thought or a project she wanted to do. I asked her why she allowed herself to be guided by other people’s opinions. She answered: ‘I don’t know’.
Now that answer pretty much explains the WHY. If you don’t know why you do certain things, or allow certain influences in your life, then you really cannot find a solution and you will end up being frustrated and in some cases get into a mental health corner. Not to talk about your own personal ‘glow’ being diminished by the control you have given others.
If you are really tired of being controlled by others then you need to do something about it. I will give you some tips below:
- Identify the areas where you find it difficult to stand your ground.
- Decide why it is important for you to do what you want.
- Focus on the WHY you have to get it done your way.
- then take action
When you take charge of your actions, you will find that you will not be easily swayed by other people’s impressions – because remember, you are the one with the vision; you are the one who knows why you decided to take certain actions. So you are going to be accountable to whatever the outcomes are. So don’t dim your glow to make other people comfortable.
to the best of you
